The basics

Is the app actually free?

Yes. No paywalls, no subscriptions, no per-tournament fees. Every feature you see is free to use. If we ever add a Pro tier, it will target power organizers running many tournaments — never the everyday flow.

Which sports do you support?

Pickleball, tennis, and padel. Each sport has its own rating engine (DUPR, UTR, FIP), its own scoring rules, and its own formats — not a one-size-fits-all shim.

Which platforms is Racquet on?

iOS and Android via the App Store and Google Play. The website at racquetapp.net is the marketing surface; sign in and play happens in the mobile app.

Do I need an account to look around?

You can continue as a guest from the sign-in screen. Guest mode is read-only and limited to a couple of public surfaces — Home and "Find your game" (a fully-local style quiz). Everything else, including any action that writes to the database, requires sign-in.

Sign-in & accounts

How do I sign in?

Sign in with Apple, Google, or Facebook. Racquet is OAuth-only — we never store passwords, so there is nothing to leak in a breach and nothing to reset.

Can I switch sign-in providers?

Each Racquet account is bound to a single OAuth provider. If you sign in with a different provider that happens to share your email, we refuse the sign-in rather than silently link the accounts — this is a security choice. Email us if you need help migrating.

How do I delete my account?

Open Settings → Delete account. We delete or anonymize your personal information within 90 days, subject to any data we are legally required to retain.

Can I have multiple accounts?

No. One account per person. Creating multiple accounts to evade blocks, throttles, or moderation actions is a Terms of Service violation.

Finding players & matches

How does player matching work?

Set your sport, your rating range (UTR / DUPR / FIP), your distance radius, and your preferences. The directory surfaces players who match. Tap one, propose a court and time, send the invite. Two taps.

What is "I'm down to play"?

A 12-hour status toggle that says you're free to hit. Other players can filter the directory by who's down right now — no opt-out cleanup needed, it auto-expires.

Can strangers DM me cold?

No. Racquet does not have an open inbox. Message threads only exist between users who share an accepted invite, a group membership, or a coach inquiry. Match invites are rate-limited per sender and per recipient pair to prevent spam.

I blocked someone — what happens?

Blocks are bidirectional and apply across every cross-user surface (match invites, group invites, coach inquiries, DMs). Neither side can see, contact, or invite the other.

Section

Groups

What's the difference between an open and a request-to-join group?

Open groups let anyone join instantly. Request-to-join groups require admin approval. Invite-only groups are hidden from the directory entirely.

Can groups have private chat and events?

Yes — group chat is realtime over a persistent socket, with typing indicators and system messages. Group events have RSVPs, automatic waitlists when the cap fills, and a free-text or saved-venue location.

How does the group leaderboard work?

Members log peer matches from a bottom-sheet flow (singles or doubles). Wins and losses sort the leaderboard. Medals on the top three; ranks for everyone else.

Section

Tournaments

How fast can I spin up a tournament?

About 60 seconds. Pick singles or doubles, a seeding strategy (level or random), a skill range, and post. Byes are placed automatically; the bracket reveals when it starts.

What sizes do you support?

4 to 64 players. Single-elimination bracket.

Who can join my tournament?

Three visibility modes: Public (anyone can join), Request to join (organizer approves), and Invite only (hidden from the directory, organizer hand-picks).

How does score confirmation work?

Either player submits a score; the opponent confirms with one tap. The submitter cannot confirm their own match — this kills disputed wins. Once confirmed, the winner auto-advances.

Do players need the app to be in my tournament?

Organizers and players entering scores do. Spectators just open the public bracket link in any browser — no install needed.

Courts, venues & coaches

How do I add a venue?

Open the venue directory, tap +, and either type the address or drop a pin on the map (Uber-style picker — search autocomplete, fixed center pin, reverse-geocoded address). Add per-court detail: surface, indoor/outdoor, sport.

How does the coach directory work?

Every listing is admin-approved before it goes live. Filter by sport, coach tier (Beginner-friendly → Pro), student level, and Near-me radius. Contact via in-app DM — no phone numbers traded.

Can I list myself as a coach?

Yes. Publish a profile — headline, about, price, sports, location, photo. Track approval status from the "My listing" screen.

Section

Privacy & safety

Can other users see my exact location?

No. Exact coordinates are stored server-side only. Other users see a coarse distance (e.g. "1.2 mi") or a city label, never your raw GPS.

What happens to the GPS data in my photos?

Every photo upload is re-encoded server-side and EXIF metadata is stripped before storage. The GPS tags your phone's camera embeds in the file never make it onto our servers.

Where can I read the legal docs?

Privacy Policy: /privacy-policy. Terms of Service: /terms-of-service. Both are linked from the footer and from Settings inside the app.

How do I report a user or content?

Use the report flow inside the app on the offending post, group, venue, coach, or thread. Trust & safety reports are prioritized.
